We currently use Symantec Endpoint Encrpytion and Device Control. We are attempting to burn DVDs using the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage CD-DVD Burner. We are using version 8.2.1 MP4. When we attempt to burn a DVD, we receive an error stating "The disc that you have inserted is not writable. Please insert a blank or rewirtable disc of type CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL into drive."
- We are using DVD+R discs, and we tried 4 different brands, but received the error on all of them.
- We ARE able to burn CD-R discs using the utility without any problems.
- We tried on several different computers and ran into the same issue. The OS on all of the computers is Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit.
- Just to make sure the DVD+R discs were good, we tried burning data to the same discs using Nero, and we were able to without any problems, so we know the discs are writable.
- We tried the latest version of the client, 8.2.1 MP10, but we received the same error.
We were able to narrow down the cause of the issue, but we still can't find a solution. When I go into the SEE Device Control Client on the PC and suspend Protection for 15 minutes, I am able to burn DVDs on that computer. The issue only occurs only when the Device Control policies are being applied. There are currently 2 policies being applied to the PC in question - the first is a global policy applied to a majority of the computers in our organization. This global policy completely disables CD and DVD burning functionality. The second policy is only applied to a select few computers - it allows CD and DVD burning. With both of those policies applied, the more permissive policy should apply when it comes to DVD burning and it should be allowed. Again, we are able to burn CDs with both policies applied.
I'd be glad to offer more info if anyone needs it. Any ideas on how we might resolve this?
