OPAL v2 drives not being recognized

I need a solution

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH229139.html

The following are the supported Opal v2 compliant eDrives for Drive Encryption:

  • Samsung SSD 840 EVO mSATA
  • Intel SSD Pro 2500

Drive Encryption manages these drives and uses the Opal drive's built-in hardware encryption capability when these drives are used with following laptop models:

  • Lenovo ThinkPad W540
  • Lenovo ThinkPad T540p
  • Lenovo ThinkPad X240

Note: Above mentioned Opal Disks and Machine Models are Default supported models and are hardcoded to take advantage of Hardware Encryption. Other Combinations will default to Software Encryption.

I am using a Samsung SSD 840 with the latest firmware, and a Crucial SSD M500 with the latest firmware. Both support OPAL v2.

If I understand the above, it says that those "supported" configurations will default to hardware encryption, but I have my installer and Group Policy set to enable hardware encryption.

Unsupported Disk Types:

  • Any configuration where the system partition is not on the same disk as the boot partition  -- N/A, only storage in both machines
  • Native mode advanced format drives -- N/A, NTFS
  • Dynamic disks -- N/A, all are Basic disks
  • SCSI drives and controllers -- N/A, all SATA
  • Software RAID disks -- N/A, no RAID
  • exFAT formatted disks -- N/A, NTFS
  • Resilient File System (ReFS) --  N/A, NTFS
  • Extended partitions. -- N/A, all primary partitions

Supported typically means the vendor says 'we have tested this and will give it our seal of approval'.  I sure hope Symantec doesn't mean only two OPAL drives in three laptops can utilize hardware encryption?

Anyone else get hardware encryption working?
