VIP Access | Network Connection Required?

The plethora of knowledge in the Symantec site has made it difficult to find this simple answer to this question....

Does the VIP Access Application require an internet connection after succesful VIP Credential Registration? Furthermore, will the VIP access application ever require an additional "check in " with Symantec to ensure proper clock sync? ( or is this local to the host machine tablet, phone etc).
